Anyone who lives in the world with access to running water, electricity, or sanitation has already enjoyed some of the benefits of polyvinyl chloride film (PVC). This well-researched and versatile plastic made from oil and salt are also one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. As a result, PVC is now also present in many medical devices, two of the most common being containers and pipes.
PVC film container. Plastics were not widely used in the medical industry until the 1960s. Subsequently, the risk of medical device infection was significantly higher than it is now.
